I am a fully qualified counsellor with twenty years experience in working with individuals and couples, both in a private and community setting. For many years I have been a Team Leader on a counselling training course at Waverley Abbey College and am currently the Programme Leader for the MA in Therapeutic Counselling & Psychotherapy.
My knowledge and practice are regularly updated by these roles as well as through other continuing professional development and I value the ways in which this knowledge and experience creates a space which is much appreciated by clients..
Personal Approach
Central to my approach is the importance of a respectful, empathic and genuine relationship with people. This relationship gives the opportunity for exploring difficult issues, thoughts and feelings. Experience has shown that this creates the possibility for a person to come to terms with the issues they are facing and move forward in meaningful and positive ways.
I use an integrative counselling model which combines several counselling approaches in order to tailor the counselling to each person or couple's needs. I offer time limited and open ended counselling.
It is important to me that the counselling process attains a high level of care and, as a consequence, I abide by the ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy of which I am a member. I also have full professional indemnity insurance and am committed to ongoing development.
Areas of Interest
For some people, it maybe helpful to know that I have training and experience in working with spiritual issues, for example, how we attach meaning to our life and how our beliefs or faith impact the issues we are facing.
It has also been particularly rewarding to work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship. Couples counselling can provide a secure and structured way to look at recurring and often painful ways of relating and thereby open up the way to find healthier ways of communicating and being together.
